Rivers
River Studies and Management Plans
For many years, lake residents have formed organizations to help manage Wisconsin's lakes. In more
recent years river management organizations have begun to emerge. These organizations are facing
many of the same challenges as lake management organizations. These include invasive exotic species,
increased nutrient loading, habitat loss and user conflicts. Cason & Associates has the expertise,
tools and resources to help river organizations assess problems, research management options and
formulate community-supported management plans.
Paper mills and power companies that rely on our rivers are being required to survey rivers for the presence of aquatic invasive species, and implement programs to manage them, as part of FERC relicensing. Cason & Associates has the expertise, tools and resources to meet the needs of these projects as well.
Grant Writing
In Wisconsin, the River Protection Grant Program provides municipalities and qualified organizations with financial assistance for projects that protect water quality, habitat and natural beauty along rivers, and also for projects that protect rivers from further development.
River Planning Grants can be used for river studies, management planning, education and organizational development. River Management Grants can be used for habitat improvement projects, land or easement acquisition, or development of protective ordinances.
Cason & Associates is available to help your organization with writing River Protection Grants.
Habitat Improvement Projects
Senior Biologist, Chad Cason, spent several years heading up a trout stream habitat improvement
program for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. One of his first assignments in this
position was to study stream and river habitat improvement projects around the state in order to
assess which techniques were most effective. This knowledge proved invaluable as he designed and
constructed habitat improvement projects on state lands. Now in the private sector, he is able to
share his experiences with private stream and river-front owners who wish to improve the habitat
along their frontage.
Please call to set up an appointment to evaluate your stream or river frontage, and to discuss options for improving its habitat.
